So here we are in san diego.... I'm missing seattle and waiting for the rose to bloom again! I'm learning to get the shakes from first drinking to much then later not enough. Physically My Body feels like shit pretty much all the time and for the first time in the history of the band we can't describe or understand the beautiful sounds we are making in the studio. Mentally i'm in a world of my own. Its like we have disconnected from the world and all there is to do is get fucked up, make music and think about the future. It's three things that will drive you mad. I've come to think of the river city rebels as kind of a sinking ship..... How long can you hold on?... thats my new motto!!!! It's getting harder to understand what people like or dislike in music or anything in life. I got my fingers crossed and living by the iggy song "here comes success". Maybe all i really need is a keepsake of luck to compliments my lack of faith! To our fans that believe.... the wait is well worth your time. LOve you! Daniel "Bopper" O'Day
oh i get bored.... write me.... aim: rcbopper email: rcbopper77@yahoo.com myspace: www.myspace.com/bopstar

4:31 pm - bopper is back
|
It's been a while. Tacoma = bore city.... I have never been so lost and bored at the same time. The days fly by leaving very little to show for. Dog the bounty hunter has been my saving grace for the last 2 days. Songs are written. I'm afraid i will die before we can record them. I always get that feeling when i write a song. I mean what happens if i die and the songs are never record. It's like they were never written. So I need to stay alive for at least another 4 months.
Hey send me some fun email at rcbopper77@yahoo.com or IM at rcbopper , someone kill my boredom.
I'm praying for a tour! I need outta here.
with luv, BOPPER RCR

11:50 am - They took our home!
|
Two nights ago, in Spokane, Washington, the River City Rebels were playing a show at a club called Fat Tuesdays. While we were on stage, our truck, trailer, and all of our personal belongings were stolen. The cops have been notified and the case is under investigation. The only things salvaged were our gear that we had onstage, some merch we had at the show, and the clothes on our back. However, even though everything we own has been taken from us, we are continuing on this tour. With the help of Big D and the Kids Table and The Phenomanauts, we’ll make it to San Francisco. Then, the plan is to use The Phenaumanauts’ bus that they have and finnish the tour in that.
If you’re going to be seeing us on this tour, please help us out. We’re really counting on you Rebel Rousers to head up the relief efforts. Burn some of your cd’s, bring a little extra money and make a donation, bring some clothes that you think we might look good in, make us some pasta, etc… If a few people in every town could do a little something for us, I think we’ll be alright. They can take our truck, they can take anything, but nothing is going to stop us from going to where we need to go. When you aint got nothin’, you’ve got nothin’ to lose. Don’t worry, we’re fine just like glitter and gold!
With Love RCR

8:34 pm - Happy New Year!
|
New York City, you guys are the best. We all appricate everyone altering their New Years Eve routine of getting drunk in your hometown to getting drunk with your favorite band. Thanks again! And for the rest of you who couldn't make it out for whatever reason, we'll be back soon so don't worry.
What a show it was. I don't remember bits and pieces of it though. During the set i dove in the crowd and pretty much fell on my face. I made it out ok. My horn, however, was not so lucky. When i got it back from the crowd it was in two pieces. I used duct tape to finnish the set but just ended up smashing it during out last song anyhow. So, if any of you bastards has a horn they could donate or i could buy off of you, contact me at skullypunk@yahoo.com Thanks!
Since we've been back from tour we pretty much have been licking our wounds and laying low. But we're ready to get back in the swing of things. We've always been about you guys first and we want 2005 to be no different. So here's the plan. We want to make our website as interactive and as in depth as possable. And we're soon going to re-vamp it with all sorts of new stuff to keep you guys busy. But my question is what do YOU want to see on our website. Be creative and leave a comment.
I also want to continue the "Ask The Rebels" segment as well. So title your comment "ATR" and ask away. I'll answer them for next week.
Speaking of 2005, RCR is going to be, as usual, relentless when it comes to our touring schedual. Keep in touch with our website this upcoming week for touring updates. It's looking like we'll be heading out towards the end of January, shortly after my birthday which is on the 19th (hint hint). And there's talk of some cool bands playing with us on these tours so we're all very excited!
Alot was accomplished in 2004. It was probably the most trying and most difficult year RCR has ever seen. And if it wasnt for all of your continuing support and love i dont even know if we would have made it through. You guys are without a doubt the most loyal and dedicated fanbase a band could ever hope to have. So your goal in 2005, along with ours, is to continue to spread the word about us. It's never come easy for us and it never will. We need everyone's help to do this!
So thanks again to everyone and we'll see you all in the new year...

5:32 pm - And the answers are.....
|
Wow guys, thanks for all your questions. Unfortunately, we weren't able to answer all of them this time around. This will have to do for now. I'd like to make this a weekly thing again. So you can leave comments about this post or if you have a question, post it. We'll try to answer it for next week. On a side note, there have been some wierd rumors popping up about us not playing Detroit this sunday because someone got arrested. This is entirely false. We will be there on Sunday don't you worry. Ok well, here are the answers we were able to come up with. Enjoy!
Morgan asks: When I was hanging out on the bus, you[Brandon]mentioned that what I knew was the image of the Rebels, but that you guys stand for something different. So my question is, what/who are the real Rebels? And why bother having an image anyways??? From hanging out with you, it seems like the real you[s] is just as cool, if not better.
Brandon answers: Well Morgan, not everyone can know us all as individuals. All people have to go by is our cd's, website, journal, and the few times we come through your town each year. There are only a choice few people that really know the truth behind the myth. Weather they're all true or not, well, I'm not sayin. It's more fun this way, don't you think? And as far as our image goes, that's genuine. We dress how we want, say what we want, and pretty much do what we want. Most people cant accept that or understand that. But I think the people that do are the ones that truely get what we're trying to accomplish.
Robin in AZ asks: What happend with Rotten Brian Records? Is it over with or is there another reason?
Bopper says: Rotten brain was used to kill bordom... I helped put out the yarbles first CDep and that was it. The online zine ended due to the lack of time. Maybe someday it will return.
NumberoneNothin asks: Wow, ask the rebels hasnt been around since no good, no time, no pride. Anyway, whats the significance of "world domination and the baron's kill count" in dreamy 17?
Bopper Says: That is a refrence to the red Baron and a night of drunken rambling from miss dreamy 17.....
Anonymous asks: When is the video for Glitter and Gold ganna come out?
RCR Responds: The video will be out in the next few weeks... Keep coming back to the site.
Johnny Giovanni asks: Why do you guys not play more songs off of Playing To Live, Living To Play live? (besides Small Town Pride and an occasional Daddy Was A Drunk) Bop - was it hard to make the transition from guitarist to singer? Do you miss playing guitar live? What is the next step for River City Rebels?
Bopper Responds: We Play the stuff that me and Brandon wrote, such as small town pride, daddy was a drunk, and 6am. Dan Mccool(old singer)wrote 50% of the lyrics on playing tolive. I don't feel right singing his songs. Making the move to singer wasnt that hard. I was write most of the songs at the time and felt i would do them more justice. I do miss playing guitar at times. I still play all the time. The next step is tour tour tour. Then go back into the studio and make another record. The next one is gonna blow some minds.
Kraig Reckless asks: I've seen the inside of the tour mobile. You travel with a 9 person cargo but something tells me you can't sleep up to 9 people at the same time. If I'm not wrong, do you all end up lovingly spooning each other? If I am wrong where does everyone go?
Jungle Face Jake answers: We do sleep 9 people at a time Kraig...infact we sometimes sleep more than that. we have 6 bunks in the back of our truck. 3 on each side, with enough floor space between them for 2 people to sleep in an uncomfortable manner. we also have 2 long cushioned benches in the mid section of the truck [driver dan, and dottie crash there]. aswell as one in the front of the vehicle. i think the most we've had sleeping in the truck at one time was 15 people...it was cozy.
Mr. No Name asks: Please explain to the naysayers that you're relationship with velvet revolver does not mean you are sell outs, or mean you will start producing shitty music...I mean, people are worried you're getting influenced, not that that's bad, just people think you guys will start sucking, which is entirely not true. The proof is in the puddin', and I hope you guys keep riding this wave of rock for quite a long time. I mean if you think that Hate To Be Loved is the only thing that RCR has to offer just take a listen to "sick kids in love" and tell me that song is not fucking amazing.
Bopper Says: Well Velvet Revolver is an amazing band. If people don't like them they are not big music fans. We have always done our own deal. We write songs that are true to us. We have 25 new songs we are sitting on. Once they see the light of day people will relize the connection between the two bands is based around attitude not sound.
Rylan and Brandon respond: If you look at rock and roll music in the last 10 years all i can think of is Limp Bizket, Korn, etc.... A bunch of shitty bands no doubt. However, mainstream rock was once upon a time pretty cool. There were alot of great bands that were in the mainstream. Including most of our influences from the Rolling Stones, to Bob Dylan, to Guns and Roses. The list goes on and on. We think that Velvet Revolver is a band to be excited about if you're into rock and roll and are sick and tired of all the latest trends from emo to metal. They have a great chance to break down the door and make rock and roll once again on top of the music world. And we've never changed our music for mainstream acceptance. We progress on our own watch and for our own reasons, no one elses. And that will continue to be the way it is with RCR forever.
Annonymous asks: Can I make Patti Bo some Easy Mac?
Patti Bo Answers: Anytime! As long as it's followed by a lengthy marathon of fucking in the shower....
Emalee asks: is there REALLY going to be a foodstamps reunion? (not really related to all of you, except for patti, but at the same time it is. cause you and the foodstamps are two of the bands i've grown up listening to.)
Patti Bo Answers: Emalee, first let me explain some history to the fans who might not know who the 'stamps are....The Foodstamps were a band I was in prior to the Rebels. I played guitar and didn't sing (surprise, surprise!) one of the other members was the bopper's baby bro Josh. We were around for a couple years and gained a really good following in our local scene. As for a re-union....it's still in its very early stages. Me, Josh (guitar), Matt (bass), Levi (drums) and Felix (vocals) have put what's in the past behind us and we've all decided to get the band back together for a few select shows around the VT/NH area. There is even talk between me and another member about re-recording a full length cd which, sadly, never saw the light of day due to the band breaking up right when we went in to record it. So Emalee, I hope that holds you over for now! MWAH!

Now's your chance to ask us anything. Just type your question as a comment and we will post the good questions with even better responses straight from your favorite band. So get thinkin and get postin! Just don't ask us our favorite color or anything like that. Those questions are boring! Make them interesting...

7:59 am - So...
|
Here we are at the Phenomanauts "command center" in wonderful Oakland, Ca. Last nite's show at the Bottom of the Hill was fantastic. The place was sold out to see us, The Teenage Harlets, Groovie Ghoulie's, and the Phenomanauts play. San Francisco is a great city. After the show we all went to the Harlets warehouse for an after party extravaganza. The parties here are the kind of parties i thought only existed in movies. Live music, DJ, plenty of booze, women, and anything else you could possibly want floating around. Good times.
So the popular question these days seems to be, "How was your thanksgiving?" Well, i'll tell you. We were in Las Vegas. Plan A was to go eat at this buffet at the Belagio. It's suppose to be fantastic. However, the line indicated about an hour and a half wait. A guy came up to me and asked "What are they serving here, gold? Who the fuck waits in a line this long for food. Whats wrong with these people?" I politely nodded my head wondering why this guy is in a Las Vegas casino on Thanksgiving. So anyways we ended up eating at the Monte Carlo. There was no line there and after filling up my first plate and taking a bite, i saw why. Without a doubt the worst thanksgiving meal i've ever had.
So yeah, while we were in Las Vegas we did a bit of gambling. It's the typical gambling story. I was up about 60 bucks playing blackjack. I was advised to quit many times but, of course, i did not. A few of us went back in at about 4 in the morning and didn't come out until about 7. The dealers were very friendly but i figured them out. They want to be nice and start a good conversation so that way you want to stay at the table. Damnit i felt so used. But she said she was going to buy our record. That's good news.
Well it's about 8 in the morning now so i suppose i should be getting to bed. This tour is winding down now. I can't wait to get out to the midwest (Chicago Detroit etc...) before it's set and done in about 3 weeks or so. Thanks so much for everyone that has come out to support us on this tour. Every fan counts when you're 3,000 miles away from home. If you live anywhere on the west coast, we'll be playing near you soon. And don't be afraid to drive a few hours either. Just think, we drove all the way across the country to play for you! Gas isnt that expensive these days anyways. So come out, bring your friends, bring food, bring booze, bring drugs, bring cigarettes, bring rubbers....on second thought, scratch that last one. See you soon!
Love Brandon HeartAttack

11:51 am - TEXAS!
|
Wal-Mart, Cheap wine, Lost weight, and not NEARLY enough sleep!! Those of you who like to call us ROCKSTARS couldn't be any farther from the truth! But in all seriousness, The tour, Like Bop said has had its ups and downs, but thankfully the ups far out weigh the downs... For instance...Last night we played AMARILLO TEXAS!! I was up at the crack of 5 P.M. to find out we were parked right outside the venue, loaded in, and ready to set up...Talk about wake up call...I got the vibe it was going to be another show where it was a HUGE room...and no where NEAR huge crowd, but to my surprise it was nicely packed by the time our tour mates and partners in crime THE 7 SHOT SCREAMERS hit the stage...Always a good time when they play...Then came MY favorite time of the day: SHOWTIME! The crowd was one of the coolest mixes of people I've ever seen....Hippies, Crust Punks, Squaters, Ska geeks, and even a couple of those kids who listen to Insane Clown Posse and still take themselves seriously! AMAZING! People were either dancing, singing along, or bobbing thier heads. All in all it was a really fun time. NOW, I find myself in El Paso Texas..and guess where we are parked at the moment....WAL-MART! When im home in New Hampshire,I can't get away from this place and it's no different when im on tour! Can't wait for the show tonight.... 11 and 1/2 hours out of the day I really don't know what to do with myself..Until I hit the stage...That's when I have no worries..Well, I'm off to grab a drink... come out and say hi when we play near you!!!!

Heres a report from the road. The tour has had it's ups and downs so far. We knew going into this it was going to be tough. 2000 miles from home on tour with a band that has even less of a following on the west coast than us. With all that aside we are making the best out of it. The 7 shot screamers from st. louis are fucking great. Good people and great tunes. Think Gene vincent meets t-rex. The highlights of the tour so far.
Playing the key club on the sunset strip with Demented are go. Drinking way to much after the show with the editor of metal Edge Magazine at the Rainbow (famous LA Bar for the young-in who don't know) then running into Rick Thorne as i stumble from The bar to the truck. I don't remember much after that.
Ventura,CA was a trip the other night. Played with a cool band called the Thunder boys! I think it was a 4 to 1 girl to guy ratio. Thats never a bad thing, unless the girls decide to fight each other. Yea the rebels had to break up an all girl fight! I wasn't sure if i wanted to break it up or jerkoff to the situation. My drunken mind went into action, i hopped in and broke it up.BOOOO! right..... The Bopper is getting soft! We can't have rcr fans fighting each other.
We've blown out 2 trailer tires. One was bald, the other was the new one that replaced the bald one. Driver Dan (driver/temp guitarist) fucking jumped a curb at 40mph with the trailer in tow.
We Fished our first season of NHL 05 for the playstation. I won the stanley cup! Erik and brandon were knocked out in the second round. Rylan Failed to get in the playoffs.
We are playing a few brand new songs in our set. Ones titled lost IN, the other is titled thats how i know.

3:52 pm - The struggle continues....
|
"Bush won"
That's what i woke up to on Wednesday morning in my bunk in the parking lot of god knows where, some supermarket parking lot in Southern California. I suddenly felt ill. I felt a lot of things, but i can't say i felt all that suprised about it all. We still have a long way to go in this country. All you have to do is open up any U.S. history book to see the evidence. And its not like we're talking about stuff that happend thousands of years ago. There are still people alive today who can remember when women were seen as lesser beings without the right to vote. Many more of those people were alive for the Red Scare and McCarthy and Vietnam and segragation and the list of shame goes on and on.
This band is the prime example of how people in this country are insecure, intolarant, and sometimes get violent with anybody who looks different or lives some sort of alternate lifestyle. We cant walk down the street in most towns without being cursed at, laughed at, or abused in some way. So i guess its no suprise that these same people elected a president who will continue to promote intolerance.
I've never wanted to come across as preachy or political or anything like that. That's why i have kept my views off of this journal for quite sometime. But alot of people were asking me what i thought about this and i figured i would just post my thoughts on here. Because that's what this journal and this band is all about. We have tried to form a counterculture. A band that creates an atmosphere where you can say whatever the fuck you want, look however the fuck you want, and most importantly, say whatever the fuck you want without having to look over your shoulder or care about what people are going to say in return. Of course we get our fare share of bashing, but alot of people are just intimidated and don't know how to react. And that's fine, that comes with the terratory i suppose
I guess i would be more upset if i was making 5.15 an hour (the national minimum wage average which bush said nothing about raising in the next 4 years, Kerry would have raised it to 7.00, which is what it is in my homestate of Massachusetts, where he holds a Senate seat.)or if i was a woman about to lose her right to choose, but i'm not. I just play music.
I'm curious to hear all of your opinions. Did you vote? Who did you vote for? What was it like? Did you experience any "voter intimidation" first hand? Even though Kerry lost, it was fucking close. I can't say i'm not discouraged.
I guess ill stop my rambling now.
To end on an up note, RCR is finally officially back on the road! We had pretty much our first show back last nite and it was great. We'll have more updates from the road, dont you worry! Thanks for listening. And if you dont want to share your thoughts in a public forum. I'll post my IM and email address on the bottom, like we always do. Take care of yourselves and we'll be coming to save a town near you very soon.
